And the Winner is…

Fleet Streets Finest, was this year lucky enough to be invovled in the 2018 UK Picture Editors Guild Awards.

The Guild Awards are the premier awards for Press Photographers in the UK and held at a prestigious event at the Head Quarters for the Honourable Artillery Company in City Road, London. Over two hundred press photographers entered the awards and around two thousand images were entered into the competition.

Fleet Streets Finest were the proud sponsors of the Newspaper Photographer of the Year. There are 12 categories in total covering diverse subjects such as Celebrity, the Royal family, Sport and Business.

The Fleets Streets Finest Newspaper Photographer of the Year was won by Evening Standard photographer Jermy Selwyn with his dramatic images of London life.

“It’s been a sad year,” the photographer told the Standard.

“It’s been a year of nasty things to picture. We have had to photograph one horrible thing after another.

“A year of terrorist attacks, having to cover these has not been very pleasant.

“And Grenfell is not a situation that anyone wants to see ever – and it’s always in our minds.”

Jeremy, a veteran of newspapers, received a cheque for five hundred pounds and a trophy at an awards ceremony hosted by journalist and broadcaster Kate Silverton. The trophy and certificate were handed over by Evening Standard Editor George Osborne and Fleet Streets Finest representative Bret Painter-Spanyol.
